As part of my birthday weekend in Norway we were heading to a small town called Horten which is about an hour and a half from Oslo. We took the train from Oslo to Moss and then there is a free ferry service across the fjord to Horten which took around 30 minutes. The Thon hotel is a short walk across a carpark so very handy.

The reception is fantastic with free coffee and water and a well decorated comfy seating and restaurant area.

The rooms are small compared to the Radisson in Oslo from the night before but clean and comfortable and furnished well with a comfy bed and nice bathroom with underfloor heating. We were not spending much time in the room so it was perfect for what we needed.

They even provided an umbrella incase you didnt have one but we were lucky with the weather for saying we were nearly in December.

The beer came in again at £14 a pint equivalent but in the town the prices were less than £8 which does smart a little less. I recommend the Saxon King which had a great vibe,

Breakfast was fantastic. I did find milk a little difficult to find so ended up with soya milk on my cornflakes but I went full ob scandinavian for the next plate for pickled herring, mackerel and smoked salmon. Amazing.

The ferry port is just across the carpark from the hotel although we were travelling up to Oslo airport on the train so we had a taxi to Skoppem then the train straight through to the airport.

Horten is not somewhere many people visit but the town is lovely and the people great. Certainly a trip I will remember!
