I had an awards em to attend in Edinburgh this week and was booked to stay in a Premier Inn near Waverley Station on the evening of the event but I had a friend travelling up there the day before so I thought I would stay another night so booked into the New Town Hotel, a boutique hotel located about 10 minutes walk from the Princes Street exit of the station. This hotel is plit over two lovelly old buildings and decorated to a high standard.

Upon arrival I checked in with a very helpful reception who showed me down to my room. I was quite late booking so I eas in the basement but the window overlooked a carpart and let in enough light. The room was spacious and well kitted out. It has the all important plug sockets next to the bed too so you can relax and work whilst charging your equipment.

I stayed in the room for a couple of hours as I had a little work to catch up on and my friend was travelling back from Stonehaven near Aberdeen. Its not often I get time to chill in a room and this one was perfect for doing it. I switched on the smart TV and logged on to the free wifi which was extremely fast!

The bathroom was spotless and well kitted out, there was even a holder / charger for an electric toothbrush!

The only negative was that there was no lift down to the room for what I could see and my luggage was quite heavy but that is part of staying in one of these old buildings and not a big issue, I imagine they have provision in the rest of the hotel. I went out that evening to catch up with my friends.

Breakfast the following morning was fantastic, I opted for the full scottish which included Haggis. The staff were incredibly friendly and happy to wait for me to order as my friend was taking his time getting down from his room. The breakfast room doubles as the bar which has a good selection of wines and whisky but only bottled beers but there are plenty of other bars in Edinburgh so as a meeting point if there are a few of you staying it will do just find.

Overall a fantastic hotel, I would thoroughly recommend it. Location wise it is a bit of a walk from the centre but that means you can get away from the hustle and bustle of the city a little and there are some fabulous shops in the vicinity if you want to put a dent in your credit card on a luxury bag! Certainly worth a look, there seemed to be a small car park to the rear too so if you are driving up this could be the hotel for you.
